Summer Beds

We sweat it out through the salt-brow fever sick
we took a drive to calm the sense
where the streets turn to routes, where the shadows live
beyond the menace arc of Backbone Ridge.
Time presses in at all sides
another carbon copy in the file
we could chase our tail in circles
or climb the stairs and sink our teeth into each other
wide awake in summer beds
Space appends to me a distance that I can’t shake
meters and miles form the least
am I as vivid in this light that holds you up,
infinite and evergreen?
Time presses in at all sides
another carbon copy in the file
we could chase our tail in circles
or climb the stairs and cage another timid sparrow
half awake in summer beds
End me if this ever stops…

Speck

hawks circle high, form one tandem spire
the red earth lies at my feet
kissed by a flameless fire
and I’m running high above Waneta
the road all dust and sky
mysteries by the millions
toying with our animal minds
where did our history roam
when the sea withdrew her hold?
now we linger in her wake
where a void now remains.
well I reason I’m a minor
speck on the timeline
a breath of vapor airborne
too brief to visualize
and i’m running high above Waneta
stranger on borrowed land
interpret what is given
I search as long as I am
where did our history roam
when the see withdrew her hold?
now we linger in her wake
where a void now remains
spectrum of this great height
hints vaguely of better times
that roll on in and call my name
as sure as seasons change.
